Something Bothering Me in the Ghostbusters Movie

So last night I watched the Ghostbusters and this part with Walter Peck has been bothering me for some time.... Quite a few years actually...

Up until about age 9 or 10 I enjoined the part where Peck got put in his place and the Ghostbusters saved the day,  showing him who was boss...

But as I got older I started thinking maybe Peck could be in the right.... Maybe, just maybe this man is completely justified in his actions.... Sure he went about it the wrong way and let Venkman get to him but in the end he was just doing his job.

As an adult I believe he is right in his skepticism of the Ghostbusters... I mean honestly, if a group of guys showed up in your city last week claiming to be paranormal exterminators and this week your city is suddenly over ran with ghosts... Who you gonna call? Odds are one would think these guys are drugging the city and in turn scamming the people... In fact most would demand someone like Peck go check them out...

Ok so even as a logical adult I still end up rooting for the Ghostbusters but I can't help but wonder how things would have worked out in the EPA inspection if the jerk-hole known as Peter Venkman had been removed from the scene...

What if Peck had met with Ray or even better... Egon? All Peck had wanted to do in the beginning was look at their storage area but the jack-wipe.... Er.... Venkman had to make trouble for his group by been the insufferable ass that he always is. So it leads me to wonder... How would that meeting would have went if he had met with one of the real scientist instead of the carnival clown? Would Ray or Egon show him the equipment? Would they have tried to explain how everything works? Would Peck been satisfied with their explanations and leave them be?

Sure I will admit it would have made a very boring part in the movie but I still can't help but wonder how things would have went... In the end the movie needs a "bad guy" to motivate the audience to get behind the Ghostbusters 100% but as an adult I no longer think of Peck as the "bad guy".... I just think of him as the poor guy who is just trying to do his job but in the end gets provoked and jerked around by the group's egotistical dipstick...
